Engineers from Cracow were the first in Poland to design and manufacture vacuum toilets. This solution is offered as an alternative for old types of toilets where faeces are thrown down directly on rails.
We want to offer modern products to Polish carriers that are result of work of Polish engineers and which will introduce our railways to the European level – IreneuszŁuczak, the president of EC Engineering, says.
Vacuum toilet is intended for use in trains and buses but also can be used in the public utility buildings. Its properties and servicing causes that it is an ideal solution for locations with limited access to the running water as for example in nature parks.
Only one glass of water, that is 0.2 l, is needed for flushing. Housing and flap are made of anti-bacterial laminate while bowl is made of stainless steel. Design makes use of the vacuum system, which does not throw faeces on rails but to the special container in train, which is emptied in the final destination. Such solutions are standard in currently constructed rail vehicles and all modernized rail cars are also equipped with such devices.
EC Engineering designs and executes various products for the rail industry. The company has been running a batch production of the first asymmetrical rail pantographs since 3 years and tram pantographs since oneyear. Products range includes also: ramp and automatic lift for disabled people or adjustable footrests for motorman and driver. The toilet is another innovative project implemented by the Polish company.
We are highly thankful to CEO Ireneusz Łuczak (from Poland) for contributing this valuable article.
